It’s becoming clearer and clearer that we all need to do our part to protect the planet. We at North West Wholesale believe a healthy pool and a healthy planet go hand-in-hand. We have come up with a few simple rules to follow to keep your pool or spa as green (metaphorically) as possible.
- Cover your pool when you’re not using it. An uncovered pool can result in water, heat and power loss – all of which create unnecessary stress on the environment (and your bank account). Fortunately, there’s an incredibly simple solution – cover your pool! Investing in a good pool cover can reduce water evaporation by over 95%! A pool cover will also prevent heat loss and prevent small animals from falling in.
- Create gardens using native plants and shrubs around your pool. These plants will act as windbreakers and slow the evaporation rate of the water. Just make sure to place your gardens far enough from the pool to prevent debris from falling in. In addition to saving water, you’re promoting plant growth and creating a beautiful setting for your pool.
- Use natural means to top up your water level. We all know pools require large amounts of water and even with a good pool cover some water evaporation is bound to happen. When it comes time to refill your pool avoid using a hose. Allow natural rain water to fill the pool. If you require more water than a downpour can provide, purchase a rainwater diverter that can be attached to a downspout. Many diverters have filters that will clean the water of dirt and debris before reaching your pool. It’s a great, earth-friendly to fill up your pool and save yourself some time.
We at North West Wholesale don’t believe being a pool owner and an eco-enthusiast need to be mutually exclusive. With the right tips and tricks, you can be swimming while saving the planet!
